Pharmacological Profile & Mechanism of Action
What it is: Testagen is a synthetic Khavinson tetrapeptide (Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly) specifically targeted at testicular parenchymal tissue. It activates genes governing Leydig cell steroidogenesis and preserves spermatogenic lineage viability.
How it works: KEDG penetrates testicular cell nuclei to upregulate steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) and 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3beta-HSD) mRNA transcription in Leydig cell cultures. It preserves Sertoli cell tight junctions, protects germ cell chromatin architecture against heat or toxicant stress, and enhances endogenous testicular SOD and catalase activity.
Why researchers study it: Investigated in male reproductive senescence models, endocrine disruptor challenge assays, steroidogenic pathway regulation, and the preservation of germ cell chromatin stability.
