Pharmacological Profile & Mechanism of Action

Research Monograph

What it is: Chonluten is a synthetic Khavinson tripeptide (Glu-Asp-Gly) specifically targeted at pulmonary parenchyma and bronchial mucosa. It supports alveolar surfactant homeostasis and stabilizes respiratory epithelial integrity.

How it works: EDG binds target chromatin sequences in alveolar type II (ATII) cells, stimulating the transcription of surfactant proteins A (SP-A) and B (SP-B). Concurrently, it downregulates matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and pro-inflammatory interleukins (IL-6, IL-8), promoting alveolar septal stability during mechanical or toxicant challenge.

Why researchers study it: Explored in respiratory models of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and alveolar surfactant dynamics under hypoxic or oxidant stress.
