Pharmacological Profile & Mechanism of Action
What it is: Bronchogen is a synthetic Khavinson tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu) specifically targeted at bronchial mucosa and ciliated airway epithelium. It regulates airway structural protein synthesis and normalizes goblet-to-ciliated cell balance.
How it works: AEDL stabilizes DNA structure by binding CTG nucleotide sequences, increasing DNA melting temperature by ~3.1°C. It upregulates transcription factors Hoxa3 and NKX2-1 (TTF-1) in human bronchial epithelial cells, stimulates structural collagen and elastin synthesis, downregulates neutrophil elastase, and suppresses goblet cell hyperplasia.
Why researchers study it: Used to examine bronchial mucosal remodeling, DNA thermostabilization kinetics, ciliated epithelial differentiation, and airway barrier integrity in preclinical respiratory research.
