Pharmacological Profile & Mechanism of Action
What it is: Crystagen is a synthetic Khavinson tripeptide (Pro-Glu-Asp / AC-6) specifically targeted at peripheral lymphoid tissues and macrophage lineages. It regulates heterochromatin reorganization and modulates innate immune signaling.
How it works: PED modulates cytokine transcriptional networks in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), downregulating hyperactive NF-kB nuclear translocation while enhancing macrophage phagocytic capacity. In irradiated or challenged lymphocyte preparations, it preserves cell viability, inhibits DNA fragmentation, and restores balanced Th1/Th2 cytokine release.
Why researchers study it: Used to investigate secondary immunodeficiency mechanisms, radiation-induced immune damage mitigation, macrophage phagocytosis kinetics, and targeted T-cell subset modulation.
