What it is: Adipotide (also known as FTPP) is a targeted peptidomimetic composed of a homing domain that binds to prohibitin on the vascular surface of white adipose tissue coupled to a pro-apoptotic cellular disruption domain.
How it works: Once bound to prohibitin in white fat blood vessels, the apoptotic domain disrupts mitochondrial membranes in vascular endothelial cells, depriving white fat deposits of blood supply and leading to selective adipose atrophy.
Why researchers study it: Researched in primates and rodent models for rapid, targeted reduction of subcutaneous and visceral fat volume.
