ACTH 1-39 (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone) is the full-length 39-amino-acid anterior pituitary polypeptide hormone responsible for regulating adrenal cortical steroidogenesis. ACTH binds with high affinity to melanocortin receptor type 2 (MC2R), stimulating cholesterol side-chain cleavage to produce glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and androgens. In experimental neurology and neuroimmunology, it serves as the key probe for the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
